this is how you live Alone

(RULE #04: don’t write in 2nd person)

Read dead poets
don’t fear the night ocean
walk right in

Use maybe to climb
savor the distinctions
make decisions yours

Have tea with your grandmother
she will tell you
thoughts are distant lovers

Pay attention to animals
birds like orange
you’re never really alone
and when you wake twisted mouth
blind reach for a stuffed monkey
grip that phone in your hand
(or maybe don’t)
gulp in the now air
hold yourself
don’t be afraid to suck your thumb
no one is watching
close your circles
put the heft of light into your lines

Some will suggest you dance
try it on
find your sway
something to live for
ask nothing of it
give everything to it

Be the koala
the deer
the dove
forgive everything and everyone
including yourself
including yourself
including yourself

Leave pain
climb mountains
have a smoke with your mother
she will show herself in waves
she will be proud of you
dismiss everything that no longer makes sense
as soon as love makes sense

Hi, I have a diploma in Journalism, I've published a novel, and I am currently studying psychology. My odd way of viewing the world either gets me kicked out of parties or invited to them. Jenn McKay
